Our HomeOur beautiful two-story home, built in 1899, sits on Galveston Island about a mile north of the beach and a mile south of The Strand, a street of little specialty shops that is the center of several blocks of shops, galleries and restaurants. The house has a beautiful wide porch across the front and one side, where we love to sit and sip coffee in the morning and wine in the evening. The ground-floor living room has striking stained glass windows, comfortable seating and television, and the adjacent room has bookcases and comfy places to sit and read or surf the Internet on your laptop in front of floor-to-ceiling windows that open onto the porch. The dining room has a long table suitable for conversation, and the kitchen is cozy, equipped with a gas 4-burner stove and conventional oven, a microwave oven and a portable dishwasher (it works well when you get the hang of it, but you may want to be prepared to hand-wash dishes until you get used to the dishwasher). A washer and dryer are in an adjacent utility room by the back door where we stow water toys and fishing gear. An outdoor table and other seating provides a pleasant place for a meal as well, with a fire pit to warm things up on the rare chilly night. The ground-floor level has a half-bath as well (toilet and sink but no tub or shower). If you are coming in from the beach, there is an outdoor shower to rinse the sand off before you come inside.
